Information Governance: focusing on archives and records management

Type:
Lecture Series
Status:
Completed
Date:
23 May 2025 - 4:00pm to 6:00pm

Topic: Information Governance: focusing on archives and records management

Information governance (IG) is the overall strategy for information assets at an organization. It’s crucial for organizations because of its role in managing and protecting data throughout its lifecycle, ensuring its accuracy, reliability, and accessibility. It's essential for compliance with regulations, minimizing legal risks, and maximizing the value of information assets. In essence, it provides a framework for understanding, managing, and protecting information assets, which are vital for an organization's success. Records management is the integral part and center point of Information Governance. Record lifecycles include creation, maintenance, retention, storage and disposition of records. A record can either be a physical, tangible object, or digital information. A comprehensive platform for managing records and information became necessary to address all phases of the lifecycle, which led to the advent of information governance. Archives consist of records that have been selected for permanent or long-term preservation on the grounds of their enduring cultural, historical, or evidentiary value.

Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Libraries

Type:
Lecture Series
Status:
Completed
Date:
5 October 2024 - 4:30pm

Topic: Application of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in Libraries

Artificial Intelligence (AI) is revolutionizing the way libraries operate, enhancing both user experience and operational efficiency. AI-driven systems can automate routine tasks such as cataloging, indexing, and sorting, allowing librarians to focus on more complex responsibilities. Advanced AI algorithms can also enhance search capabilities, enabling users to find relevant information more quickly and accurately through natural language processing and semantic search techniques. Moreover, AI-powered chatbots and virtual assistants can provide 24/7 support to library patrons, answering queries and guiding them through digital resources. Predictive analytics can help libraries anticipate user needs and preferences, leading to curated collections and personalized recommendations. Overall, the integration of AI in libraries is paving the way for smarter, more responsive, and user-centric information services.
